Rich Server Platform (RSP) makes use of OSGi technology for deeply integrating people, content, repositories, processes, applications and services.
OSGi (Open Service Gateway Initiative) are industry-proven specifications for software integration, a dynamic module system for Java.
The OSGi specifications define a standardized, component-oriented, computing environment for networked services:
- components can be installed, updated, or removed on the fly simplifying configuration and maintenance
- defines communication between components extremely well and in an industry-accepted standardized way for deep and fast integration
The OSGi technology is currently being delivered in products and services shipping from numerous Fortune Global 100 companies.
The OSGi framework specification forms the basis of the Eclipse Runtime. As of Eclipse 3.0, the Runtime is fully based on the OSGi notion of bundle (equivalent to Eclipse plug-ins, also synonymous with components).
